Sprint paddling can help you achieve your fitness goals and lead a healthy lifestyle in a team environment.
After School Sport
If you are looking to fill your time after school, be part of a team, be active outside, and learn health and life skills, paddling is a great place to start! Most of our high performance members first started in an after school program. Educated coaches and a disciplined group of athletes will help you feel welcomed and included as you paddle around beautiful Whonnock Lake.
High Performance Racing
Our High Performance program can take you across the BC, Canada, North American, and the World. As a club, RCKC sends our athletes to regattas within BC, Canada, and Washington state. If our athletes perform well, they can qualify for domestic multi-sport Games including BC Summer Games and Canada Summer Games. As our athletes improve, they may also qualify for the National Team Program and race at Junior, U23, or Senior World Championships. These events team you up with Canoe Kayak Canada and the best paddlers in our country to compete against the best in the world. The pinnacle of sprint paddling is the Olympic Games. Many RCKC have been selected to represent our club, BC, and Canada at these competitions. It all starts with getting into the boat for the first time. On top of races, our High Performance athletes also take part in training camps that can take you across BC, Canada, and down south to Florida or California during the cold winter months.
Active Lifestyle
Paddling is a low-impact sport and can be done by most people. The peace and solitude of being on the water on a pristine lake is unmatched. We have a range of boats so we can start you in a much more stable boat before getting you into an Olympic level kayak. Our members and coaches are very welcoming and will encourage you to try your best within your personal limits. Many of our former High Performance athletes will come back to visit and reminisce about their time on the lake.
Community Involvement
Beyond just paddling, our members are active members of the community. RCKC send volunteers for local events and provides paddling programs for Maple Ridge and the surrounding cities. High performance athletes at RCKC often become the coaches for our recreational and sprint programs, with their vast knowledge and years of hands-on experience. Even after leaving the RCKC High Performance program, our club athletes and coaches become active members in the community.
