Harrison Dragon Fest
July 23, 2011
Dragon Ridge had a fun day participating in the Harrison Dragon Boat Festival. We began the day with a rocky 200m seeding race, and the sensations in the boat improved with each 500m. Midday we had our traditional amazing potluck. We raced in the mixed division with only 4 men (other teams had up to 12), and stayed very competitive in each race. Everyone was smiling at the end of the day!

BC School Dragonboat Championship
May 28, 2011
A great time was had by all who attended the BC School Dragonboat Championships at Burnaby Lake. Both our Ridge teams did extremely well. Our Elementary School Team won all their heats and finished 3rd in the final race. The High School Team also won each of their heats and claimed 1st Place by beating a very strong team from the Victoria Paddling Club. Good to see that parents also got a chance to try paddling by participating in a race during the lunch break. This was the first time Ridge has attended this event and it was remarkable to see how well our teams did given that the teams had only a total of 3 hours of practice time. We will have to return next year to defend our title!
Thank you to Sherry Hunt for preparing our teams for this Regatta and a big thank you to Brenda Ingram who spent her day helping to organize our teams in place of Sherry who had a prior commitment yesterday.
Our fundraising concession was a great success. Thank you to everyone who contributed with all the baked goods. A big thank you to Judy Cavasinni for organizing this fundraiser and to the team of helpers who worked the concession. Well done!
